Description In Favor Of Books The Day Jesus Rode Into Croydon
Oh Lord, what a waste of time this was. It had so much promise, but blundered into so much ridiculousness I couldn't take it any more. I am more than willing to suspend belief where required, but this was just plain silly. As mentioned, it was good at first, cocooning me in the warm fuzziness of 80s nostalgia: quirky characters straight out of a Young Ones episode with overtures of a Madness video, childhood references and dry humour. Unfortunately around the 40% mark the author lost the plot and it fell flat into farce and nonsense. The coppers especially [eye roll] ...
Pity, the writing was for the most part good, but he needs to focus on improving characterisation, plot lines and, above all, punctuation.

I enjoyed reading the book very much, especially the plot twist on the last third. It's a quirky English novel without too many local references. However, I thought that the end didn't tie all the loose ends? (Spoilers ahead!!!!) what's the story with Harriet? Why did no one recognise Mia / Julie as the soulless robot that she was? At the beginning Katie pesters Joe about talking about "it" but we never found out what it means. Why did Jimmy Christmas never distanced himself from Morgan? WhoReally liked it, needs a sequel desperately.
Found myself thinking about this book even when I wasnt reading it. About half way through it was messing with my head because it doesnt fit into your normal genre so was left guessing what next but when it does all make sense, you know you've read something special.
Why arent books like this more readily available? I'm fed up with the same tired nonsense put out by publishers i.e. spy stuff etc. Yes I know it sells but that doesnt mean its any good. This on the other hand I came across via amazon and i was initially hesitant because i'd never heard of the guy. Regardless, I gave it a go and simply put Wow! Got be one the best books Ive ever read and the end just blew me away. Give it a go, a great read.
Interesting novel and very funny.
There's a reason you feel that you're reading through a drug-induced haze when you read this book. Great twist at the end, too. I'm pretty sure I've re-read the last chapter three or four times to figure out who is speaking. Very cleaver!
What was the point of this? There were some amusing scenes, but the plot and characters failed to engage me.The story focusses on non-descript (blandness best expressed by the fact that he does a "job" - no idea what) Joseph who moves into a houseshare with a dopehead, Danny. He soon develops hallucinations that he has been chosen to save humanity. I found that this part developed slowly, lacked any form of drama or tension, and neither was it funny. The supporting cast includes a pair of
