Ann Rule's Crime Files books have delivered the very best in true crime reading since A Rose for Her Grave, first in the acclaimed series, made its debut. Distinguished by the former Seattle policewoman's razor-sharp eye for telling detail and her penetrating analysis of the criminal mind, this gripping collection of accounts drawn from her personal files features the twisting case of Randy Roth, who married -- and murdered -- for profit. In her trademark narrative style, Ann Rule weaves a tale that is riveting, enraging, and heartbreaking all at once, and brilliantly chronicles the fateful confluence of a killer and his female victims, as well as the shattering investigation into Roth's heinous crimes.Itemize Books To A Rose for Her Grave and Other True Cases (Crime Files #1)

I have realized that I don't really enjoy true crime books......Only Ms. Rule could have written so diplomatically about the man that married, then murdered for insurance money.
*"A Rose for Her Grave": Beacon Rock OR 1981, Lake Sammamish WA 1991: the abominable career of Randy Roth, who murdered two of his four wives for their life insurance--and a third escaped him by the skin of her teeth*"Campbell's Revenge": Clearview WA 1974, 1982: the completely preventable murders of two women and a child by Charles Rodman Campbell. Campbell raped Renae Wicklund in 1974. She had the guts to testify against him. He was convicted in 1976 and sentenced to thirty years with a
What a case. I read Fatal Charm which is also an excellent book on this murderer. This book is just as good at covering this narcistic murderer. The facts are hard to believe when put all together, but I am thankful this guy is behind bars. Always get a background check when he or she seems too good to be true
Book 23 of 2019: A Rose for Her Grave by Ann RuleI read this after completing Michele McNamara's book, based on recommendations from my true crime hive. Being a true crime buff, I'm surprised that I never heard of Ann Rule given her literary contributions to the genre. My interest was piqued when I read about one of her most famous books, The Stranger Beside Me( #currentlyreading ). I was on the hold list for this one at the time through my library so this is where I started. I have to say, I
Over the years I've read all of Ann Rule's books (except her one novel), and these days I'm re-reading them when I get the chance. For my money this is one of her best. The primary story here is about Randy Roth, a man with amazing bad luck when it came to wives; they seemed to die in tragic accidents after he insured their lives. Roth's story also appears in FATAL CHARM by Carlton Smith. The other cases in this volume are quite interesting also.
