This book is written for middle-grade readers. It was a quick read (I read it during our Wednesday reading time in class, so about 2 hours). I enjoyed the storyline and Marisa's thoughts about being a teen, weight, and finding a boyfriend. The narrative was very quick, but that is to be expected from a book like this. Overall, though, it was a good quick read I would recommend to students who like love stories.Accidental Love has a calm plot, but the plot will make you keep reading. One of the reviews from Kirkus Reviews made a point that Soto writes with humor, wonderment, and a generosity toward life. Although the books title sounds mature, the content reveals a lot and not just about love; he indeed writes with humor. The author writes things that are generally connected to real-life situations.
